Says We Cannot Justify A Shutdown That Will Destroy The Nevada Economy

Las Vegas, NV/March 19, 2020…Today Sam Peters, United States Air Force veteran, Bronze Star recipient, and Republican candidate for Congress in Nevada’s 4th District, called for a shortening of the month-long shutdown of casinos, bars, restaurants, and other “nonessential” businesses ordered by Democratic Governor Steve Sisolak on Tuesday. Peters said he was urging and immediate shortening or lifting of the business ban as soon as medical supplies are postured for response or/and COVID-19 cases are on a downward trend nationally. He said the current gubernatorial order will destroy the Nevada economy and plunge the State into a deep recession. He called for Congressman Steven Horsford to join him in this call, which is being echoed by the Mayors of Las Vegas and Reno.

“We must continue to watch the spread of the virus, much like we do the common flu, protect the most at-risk groups within our population, and continue to be smart in our own personal hygiene and social engagement,” said Sam Peters. “But we cannot sustain or justify a prolonged economic shutdown when the over-arching majority of the population is still considered low-risk for this virus by our own Center for Disease Control. This type of shutdown will cripple the Nevada economy. The month-long shutdown will certainly plunge Nevada into a recession, cost hundreds if not thousands of jobs, and shutter otherwise thriving small businesses just as we were recovering from the failed economic policies of the Obama/Biden years.”

Peters is a veteran of the United States Air Force. He served his country in Afghanistan, Iraq, Panama, and Korea. He earned the Bronze Star for his efforts in Afghanistan.

After his service to our nation, Peters worked for two years as a corporate employee where he managed nearly $100 million in annual revenue across the largest geographical region in the United States. Peters settled in Las Vegas with his family, and exercising his entrepreneurial spirit, Peters founded Peters Family Insurance with two Locations which was named “Best of Las Vegas, 2019” in two categories. He presently employs eight.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Park University, Missouri. He finished his Master of Science in Administration, with focus on law, through Central Michigan University and completed a Graduate-Level Certificate Program in Organizational Finance from the University of Maryland University College.
