With Millions Unemployed Americans, Members Of Congress Should Share The Sacrifice
Las Vegas, NV/April 3, 2020…Today Sam Peters, United States Air Force veteran, Bronze Star recipient, and Republican candidate for Congress in Nevada’s 4th District, called for a monthlong suspension of pay to members of Congress. With millions of Americans through no fault of their own losing their jobs and businesses forced to shut down during the COVID 19 pandemic, Peters says members of Congress should forego their pay for a month and share the sacrifice that millions are being forced to make. Peters noted that stay in place orders have had a devastating affect on the economy of Nevada’s 4th District yet residents are willing to make the sacrifice if it will help stop the spread of COVID 19. Members of Congress should be willing to make the same sacrifice as average citizens are.
“Millions of Americans are responding to the call of self-sacrifice in this war against COVID 19,” said Sam Peters. “Americans are making incredible sacrifices to stop the spread of this pandemic, even if it means devastating economic hardship. This is something I am seeing in 4th District. Yet despite this sacrifice, our spirits are strong and we will beat this pandemic.
“Having served in the military, I know leaders do not ask anything of those serving that they would not do themselves,” continued Peters. “That is why I think Congress should immediately pass legislation suspending salaries to members for one month. Congress should share the sacrifice that millions are having to do. That is what leadership is all about.”
